May be bot is adding such notifications in some situations, but not always. My requests in this conversation come after I discovered that many notifications are not appearing on user talk pages. I always check user talk pages and add missing notifications before deletions. So will be good idea to perform task yourself. It's not too hard after all. Image Use

Hi Mr. Moore - I noticed your file being used by a real estate broker in a property brochure. While they indicated "photo by Larry D. Moore", they did not follow the directions and link to the license.

I found the image (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mendenhall_and_waterfall.jpg) at https://issuu.com/ranchesforsale/docs/colt_island_fay_ranches?fr=sZTNhYjgzNzg5MzE - in order to view the property brochure, I registered with a temp email address. The property is listed with Fay Ranches (https://fayranches.com/property/colt-island-alaska/).

I'm not sure if you care to follow up on the matter, but I thought it might be nice to know where the image is being used.

Please avoid tagging files for deletion manually

Please use Help:QuickDelete instead. You can't fully rely on a bot to notify the uploader.
Also, for old files that aren't very obviously copyright violations, please start a regular deletion request. You had tagged File:Bio Picture of Herbert Murrie.jpg as a "personal file". You should also consider who uploaded it. When a selfie of a highschooler is uploaded by a new account with no other contributions it's more likely to be out of scope. The percentage of mistakes that get caught might be small.
CSD F10 is for "Low-to-medium quality selfies and other personal files (including AI generated images) of or by users who have no constructive global contributions."
Many (if not most) of the files you're tagging are medium-to-high quality portraits of CEOs. In some cases the associated company even has an article on Wikipedia. These files may have other problems, but they're not F10. You also don't appear to be checking if the uploader is a contributor. - Alexis Jazz ^{ping plz} 03:43, 12 February 2026 (UTC)

I let the deleting admin decide if speedy delete is a mistake or not, and they don't flag many of them. The "other personal files" definition is quite broad from the images I see on Category:Personal files for speedy deletion. My concept of "constructive global contributions" is kind of broad too. I may be stretching that too far. My process usually starts with picking a high-level category like Category:Vocalists or Category:Unidentified men or a category from Category:Categories requiring diffusion (200-item threshold) and to start diffusing by re-categorizing or deletion and sometimes that leads me in other directions. Thank you, I better understand your workflow now. Admins are typically under quite high pressure, there's not enough time to inspect every tagged file with great care. Most of the files you tag do need to be deleted, but in many cases because they are COM:NETCOPYVIO or need permission. If either of those apply, they would be preferred over F10 because F10 is more of a judgment call.
Images that are "too dark" can often be fixed. Compare before and after.
Probably the most extreme I ever adjusted: soldier in darkness and after.
If you stumble upon an image that could be usable if it was lighter, don't hesitate to ask me or the photography workshop. - Alexis Jazz ^{ping plz} 14:46, 12 February 2026 (UTC)

Person not notable

There is no requirement that images must be of "notable" people, just that they may be "educational". Images taken of people show fashion and interior design, which is educational. I see you are going through the category of unidentified people, but many of these people are identified by name in the title of the image. I think you would be better creating a name category for the person, rather than trying to delete them based on the subjective "notable" versus "not notable". See for example what I did at: File:Mercedes y Antonio Ponce.png. If you are interested deeper research to work out who the people are, I recommend getting a free Familysearch account. I worked out who Mercedes Ponce and Antonio Ponce were and I added the link to their category. If you are looking for a fun project, add your parents and grandparents to Familysearch in the tree. You can find your family in the census and other documents. Another example of someone trying to work out the identity of someone in an image is Jmabel here: File:Mr Nagashima, Seattle, 1927 (MOHAI 3154).jpg, they look in the census and other documents and leave nots on their incomplete research for the next attempt. There is also a project at Flickr Commons where the Library of Congress asks for help adding context to images, those images are also stored here, but the context is added at Flickr and is transferred here. Odds are she was probably not a federal employee and not commissioned but was a government contractor (there seems to be a fine line between the latter two). The contract would have specified that all rights of the artist would become property of the federal government. In that case, how confident are you that the work is no longer under copyright? On what basis did you decide that this was the contract Reynolds signed?

@DragonflySixtyseven: The painting was published without a valid copyright notice (a requirement until 1977) so I'm very confident the painting is in the public domain (i.e. no longer under copyright). This fact sheet page 6, article 1 specifies the artist would have signed a contract issued by the Treasury Department with the following clause "All the foregoing, and all rights of the Artist therein, shall become the property of the United States". Commons Photographers: Our next meeting (05/2026)

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

I hope you’re well and enjoy your time as a photographer on Wikimedia Commons. In my role of the new chair of the user group, I have a couple of updates to share with you.

After the election, the new board met for the first time on March 21 and immediately got to work. We elected the organization’s officers and decided to move from quarterly to monthly board meetings. We believe meeting more frequently will create more opportunities to serve our members effectively and help move the group forward.

We also successfully applied for a pre-conference at the upcoming Wikimania in Paris (July 21–25). If you’re planning to attend the conference, please consider joining us on July 21th for a day full of conversations about photography and Commons. Please sign up here if you’re interested.

And finally, it’s my pleasure to invite you to our first online meeting, which will take place on May 31. Our member Wojciech, an experienced concert photographer, will give a talk on photographing orchestras during live performances. I took this photo, and it appears to be in use on the subject’s Wikipedia bio. It doesn’t seem to be subject to speedy deletion under the rationale you used (CSD F10).

Invitation to the Wikimedia Commons Pre-Conference at the Wikimania 2026

Hello Nv8200pa,

There is also a service announcement for all photographers coming to Paris: Unfortunately, France has no freedom of panorama at all. Therefore, Commons does not accept photos of modern buildings, public art or light installations at night. Read more about the problem here.

Besides the invitation to our pre-conference, there is another announcement: We updated the membership list of the Commons Photographers User Group. The membership list is much smaller now and based on a template. This allows us to easily create message lists and statistics. Please have a look at your entry in the list and update it if needed.

Hello Nv8200pa,

I have a question regarding an image where you are the credited uploader: Rob Kidd. From what little information is available online, Rob Kidd was a pseudonym used by several authors, including Liz Braswell, Carla Jablonski, Tui T. Sutherland and other authors. With that in mind, can you identify who is the photographed person? Or did you only know them as the "Rob Kidd" pseudonym? Best practices

Before you tag an image for deletion on the grounds that it's a "personal image by a non-contributor", you should check the uploader's global contributions, just in case they had originally uploaded the image for use in an article where it was subsequently replaced with a different one.
